Question to Bernd Bauer, APUS® director of production and product development
HOW DID THE BUSINESS IDEA COME OUT?
One day my son told me enthusiastically about Mr. Ming and his tables. It wasn’t long before I took a look at the furniture myself, touched the wood and felt the surface. Tables made of these noble timbers are something very special. People treat themselves to their own very individual table and acquire values they can pass on to the next generations. With APUS® a dream is coming true for me as a master carpenter – also because we’re a small but first-rate family business and have great plans.
Question to Jörg Bauer, APUS® director of sales and marketing
WHAT DOES YOUR FURNITURE CONVEY APART FROM FUNCTIONALITY?
A table is both a meeting place and a centre. Tables make meetings possible. And they are witnesses of the past and present. APUS® stands for zest for life, esteem, lasting values and self-determination. Anyone who owns an APUS® has achieved these values. Because it’s a fact that: character begins at home. And with their APUS®, demanding people can give shape to precisely this need.
Question to furniture designer Ming
WHAT'S SO SPECIAL ABOUT THE TIMBERS FROM CHINA?
We work elm wood and mahogany from old houses scheduled for demolition in China. The timbers are very robust and of a type that’s unique in Europe. This material is absolutely natural, untreated and completely mature. This means the tables are centuries-old, retain their shape and are of unrivalled quality. They need no maintenance and are not sensitive to dirt at all. I personally associate much more with these woods: they reflect us as people, our life. They symbolize the bond between humans and nature.
